The testing and development of different clutch cone samples, leading to a standardized design.

sample was unsatisfactory on test owing to the dressing melting out and causing the clutch to jamb in engagement.

Mr Nadin promised Committee to obtain more material without dressing. Mr Platford would meanwhile continue his test after removing as far as possible the superfluous dressing.
(this clutch ultimately improved very considerably by some oil working on to the surfaces from the clutch spiggot)

Jan. 24th. Three more sample clutch cones were delivered without any dressing at all. These were quite unsuitable and were returned to the makers.

Feb. 7th. Three further samples were delivered.

Feb. 21st. These were tested and found to be satisfactory.

March22nd. Final tests were made with one of these samples, and on the results of which the Committee agreed to make this type of clutch standard.

We now have either on chassis, in the Shops or on order, between 80 and 90 sets for this type of clutch.
