It is evident, from our own experimental experience, that the high compression 20/25 HP. cars will be troubled with clutch slipping if no attempt is made to strengthen up the clutch springs. There were a number of chassis produced before the final clutch spring modification (20% increase) came on to production, and these must be altered. It is a costly job to modify these existing clutches to the latest scheme. We should recommend for these that the existing clutch springs be strengthened up by using a packing washers .105" thick behind each spring. This has the effect of putting up the normal load on each clutch spring from 105 to 117 lbs - i.e. an increase of 11.5%. This increase does not produce an objectionably high clutch pedal pressure and is sufficient to give freedom from clutch slip. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL. | ||
