THE MANGANESE BRONZE & BRASS Co., LTD. SHEET No. 2. DATED 25.5.39. Messrs.Rolls Royce Ltd. We would, therefore, suggest fitting a Thin Metal Washer between the Oilite and the Packing, to prevent contact, but the face next to the Oilite must be lapped smooth. Unfortunately, we have not standard Tools for the production of these washers and the samples originally submitted were machined from 1.3/8" solids and which exposes the interior structure of the material. From the appearance of the sample after service, we are of the opinion that this is not a suitable means of preparing the parts for your work and that they must be made in a similar manner to that used for the preparation of Washers, so that the friction surfaces are subject to compression. We are, therefore, arranging for the four new Washers to be cut from out of Plates and in conclusion would advise you that the hole for the locking pin can be increased to 0.080" as requested. We trust the above explanation will be of assistance to you and have put in hand the four additional parts, pending receipt of your Official Order. Yours faithfully, FOR THE MANGANESE BRONZE AND BRASS CO. LIMITED. | ||
