We send you herewith a print (lec.1418) of the modifications we propose making to the throttle and the tubing to it, so that the temperature of this throttle will be so high as to act as a hot spot. We are, of course, a little bit anxious about the distortion that might be caused by carrying the temperature of the throttle much higher than was the case with water, but this will be tested out. We are sending you a copy of the drawing to shew you the direction in which we are moving, and to enable you to slow up your production on the parts affected. We have little doubt that for the new work we should prefer the modified carburetter and butterfly valve arrangement, but for existing cars we intend to try and out the heated throttle as shewn in this blue print. On the present type of throttle exhaust heated, we have definitely concluded that there is no doubt as to the most effective place to apply the heat, but it must not be forgotten that the temperature of the whole engine house must be maintained as high as possible so as to keep the cylinders at or near the temperature of boiling water.
