| X236 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}9/KW. 30th March, 1935. C.H.Brooks, Esq., The Light Production Co.Ltd., 60/66, Rochester Row, Westminster, London, S.W.1. Dear Mr. Brooks, Our production people have been grumbling that it is necessary for the gudgeon pins in the Aerolite pistons supplied to be selectively assembled in their own pistons. They claim that this is not necessary in our own pistons. I cannot quite understand why this selective assembly is necessary because you have a drawing limit for your gudgeon pins which is finer than ours, and you do not appear to have any limit on the whole of the piston. Perhaps next time you are up here you could go into our method of manufacture and see where it differs from your own. I do hope you will be able to let me have those 3 1/4" bore pistons very soon. We have seized up an Aerolite piston in a customer's car, but one of our standard pistons had already seized in the same unit so that we are investigating matters. Yours sincerely, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
