Dear Sirs,

For the attention of W.A.Robotham Esq.

We are pleased to note from your communication of the 28th that our Piston No. C.140 will be suitable for your experimental run, with certain modifications.

We are afraid that to machine .040" off the crown would leave the crown too thin for a piston of this diameter. The best way to deal with it, if the compression height must remain unaltered, is to run a spot of wax in the corebox and make some cores .040" less on the inside dimension, at the same time that we are making cores for the standard C.140, and thus run off some special castings for the job. This will keep the gudgeon pin hole in the centre of the bush and keep the general proportions of the piston right. If you would be good enough, therefore, to let us have the order for the fourteen pistons you require, complete with gudgeon pins and rings to suit, the writer will see that you have the pistons at the earliest possible moment.
