OIL-LESS BEARINGS. I thank HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/WST. for his memo. I am not sure that I like bearings without oil, and I should make pretty certain before adopting them. Ball or roller bearings will run for many years with one filling of vaseline, and this practice I should prefer. Also, if we need an oilless bearing it is more than likely that we shall find a better one than we can invent, because there has been much work done on this matter in connection with trolley pullies for electric trams etc. Also I do not think a gum like substance such as bakelite at all suitable. It, and any filling like asbestos, will sure to make a bad heat conductor. Mr. Hall should test its value as a bearing, as I fear also the co-efficient of friction would be high.
