To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} X202 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}12/KW.14.3.36. Bentley Rear Axle. The rear axle pinion modification with the 3" longer pinion shank to N.Sch.4610, which incidentally includes an extra bearing to support the pinion, has not yet been fitted to a motor car. Before we have this fitted to a car, will you please carry out deflection tests, similar to those recently done on the SpectreCodename for Phantom III engine, on this particular pinion assembly, and also on a standard one, to find out firstly, whether the bedding of the gears is likely to be better, and secondly, whether the distortion at the oil retaining thread is likely to be less.
