The following is a brief specification of the parts we are running on 21-G-IV on the next 15,000 miles test :- (1) Large bore 20/25 unit with non-spread centres. A spread centres unit cannot be run because the cylinder head will not be ready for about another 2 months. (2) Stromberg downdraught carburetter and induction system, approximating to the final scheme which it is hoped to standardise. (3) 11" Borg & Beck clutch. (4) Hall's metal bearings. (5) Stellited silchrome valves, which were not run on the last test. (6) Modified exhaust system to suit big bore unit. (7) 45° timing gears to facilitate production. (8) Deletion of propellor shaft damper. (9) Correct 9/41 hypoid gears with improved taper modification to N.Sch.4651. (10) Reduced angle synchromesh cones to increase ease of gear change. If successful these might help the SpectreCodename for Phantom III. (11) Low rating road springs. (12) SpectreCodename for Phantom III type steering with modifications which it is hoped will reduce steering shocks. (13) Roll rod, front (handwritten) (14) 45° Helix Angle Gears Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} (handwritten) (15) Improved Tackall Jacks (handwritten) (16) Petrol system to avoid vapour lock (handwritten) | ||
