Dear Sirs,

We thank you for your letter of April 4th.

We enclose scheme No. LRC.3835, which shows the complete arrangement in which it is proposed to use bellows EX.13864, and should be obliged if you would treat this as confidential.

We cannot quite understand your remarks about the rating of the No. 2 bellows being 96 lbs. per inch, as in your letter of February 22nd. you gave us a figure for No. 2 bellows as load to compress 3/16" - 7 1/2 to 8 lbs. This comes to a rating of approximately 40 lbs. per inch.

The difficulty about using a fluid with a higher vapour pressure than Ethyl Alcohol is that the cooling system is likely to attain a temperature of 100°C. and we anticipate any fluid with a really low vapour pressure would produce such high loads at the boiling point of water that the bellows would be likely to fail.

We should like your views on this subject.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
