BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X5380 DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}2/M26.3.28. INDIA 3. X.5770 X.5380 X.5460 With further reference to BYll/21.3.28., we were assured by the Expl: Dept: that India 3. is more urgent than EAC.10. The reason for this is that the production of 20 HP. chassis is, or should be, held up pending the incorporation of the India 3 improvements as a result of a 10,000 miles test. These improvements are : (1) Longer frame. (2) 'X' shaped cross member in frame, with necessary alterations to brake gear etc. (3) A modified petrol tank, wheel carrier, luggage grid at rear to improve ground clearance. (4) R.{Sir Henry Royce} has now made a further sine qua non of centralised chassis lubrication. Of the above items you have (1) and (2). (3) we hope to send you in a short time, and (4) we are now at work on, and anticipate that it will not be a very long job. We may say that so far as this office is concerned, two people are on EAC.10 and one on India 3., an arrangement which under the circumstances, appears to be the best we can do.
