premises on Saturday morning in order to discuss the matter with one of their technical men. He was surprised that we had taken such a detailed interest in the exact operation of the cut-out. We pointed out to him that every little detail of the R.R. car was very carefully considered. We impressed upon him the fact that their cutouts would not hope for success with us unless they could give us a job which was reliably consistent in assembly and performance.

We had sent to them a copy of our specification of operation of the cutout for R.R. car, which they had passed on to their place in France, and we had received back their version of the setting of the cutout, to which however we did not quite agree and did not see any reason to alter our own specification. Our reasons for the details of our own specification were explained to their representative during our visit and he could not but agree that our specification of operation was more nearly right, taking everything into consideration. It was left that we would put the matter in writing for their further consideration, which is accordingly being done. After that we shall hope to receive further cutouts, (as it was decided to put these on all possible cars) which we hope will be as perfect and consistent in operation as the first two instruments received.
