Hotel De L'ouest, Laval, Mayenne. Mar. 30th. 1922. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} from HY.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} S-GOSHAWK-11. OUR COMMENTS. I confirm wire sent to you yesterday as follows - "Platford, cross steering levers bent, send new pair, suggest stronger design, De Looze cable when money sent. Also I acknowledge receipt of your wire from D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} and wire from you as follows - Six Goshawk hope leave England Wednesday next propose sending steering levers with car or can send Boulogne address you to call for, wire instructions, am communicating you to address given. Platford. I have today answered this as follows - Platford, send steering levers here direct parcel post, unsafe to run to Boulogne, bending worse today. We are still running the car about but we have to go carefully as if one of the levers bends badly, it may foul the spokes of the wheel and cause damage to many parts. The off-side one was bent the greater amount yesterday but today the near side appears to have gone equally. They have gone torsionally, the ball ends moving inwards toward the centre of the chassis. The ends of the slots in the cross steering tube fittings are bearing on the necks of the ball ends and this may be now giving a little support to the levers although it will set up undesirable stresses in other directions. When you send the levers please send all the tools and materials we are likely to require to fit them. On Mar. 27th. we were delayed as you know by oil pressure failing due to dirty filter. This was made O.K. by A pair of levers ready for fixing on S-Goshawk-11 we sent as requested in Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer}telegram of Thursday 30th.Mar. and we wired him to that effect. We have this morning received instructions from R.{Sir Henry Royce} that this new designed stronger lever are to be fitted to all these 10,000 miles test cars, especially must be done on further cars prior to leaving England for their tests. contd:- | ||
