Your Ref._________ Our Ref. TCS/DR June 26/33. W.A.Robotham Esq., Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. Dear Mr. Robotham, Thanks for your letter to hand this morning, and I am arranging to send Becke over to do the test on your car. If he cannot complete the job I am pleased to note you will arrange to let us have the car at these works. As regards pumps, we are sending you for more on, and I shall be glad if you will let me have the two instruments you refer to back again, as I should like to examine them. I am still of the opinion that the trouble is not due to sticking in the centre spindle. In all probability what has happened is this, (I believe it has already been explained to you) - a slight shrinkage takes place through aging of the diaphragm, and the position of the diaphragm in the original pumps was such that the return spring had to be all the hard work as regards flexing. This not only caused the pump to stick up, but also left the points in contact which would account for the burning. Kind regards. Yours sincerely, T.C. Skinner TR{Capt. F. W.
