Worm Drive.

C.J. 21/4/11 R/D/1411

With further reference to the discussion on Worm Drive, I have left Hunt setting out a car from some sketches I gave him before leaving Quarndon.

I decided on a gear ratio of 3.6 which is a little less than that given for the Lanchester 53 H.P. R.A.C. rating. There is no doubt that such a car can be built and that its maximum speed would probably come out at about 50 m.p.h. instead of, say, 56 m.p.h. with the present engine. That the lower ratio will compensate with probably more than the extra loss of/worm gear would undoubtedly be a fact.

The road clearance will be very small even with a small worm wheel of, say, 10" against our present
