COPY. X1085 DERBY. c. to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} London. Bombay. Whr{Mr Wheeler}6/A15.10.21. With reference to your request some time ago for our opinion as to whether the Ventilation Shutters on Chassis Bonnets were necessary, Kirby writes from Delhi as follows:- "Temperature of water in Post-War Cars. " I had occasion to drive car No.12-EE from Dehra-Dun to Rajpur two or three times, the distance between the two places is 7 miles with a rise of 1000 feet which can be done on top gear at 30 to 35 miles per hour if required. On arrival at Rajpur I found the water boiling, this also occurred when going through Mahoud Pass ( a rather stiff gradient) on my way back to Delhi. I also found 28-EE the same. On the level on a long run the temperature of the water stands at about 95° at this time of the year with the shutters of the bonnet closed. I do not think it advisable to do away with the shutters on cars intended for this country! Whr.{Mr Wheeler} | ||
