Contd. -2- Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 3/LG30.9.21. ---------------- destroyed two gear boxes in our tests on the thrust bearing. If we take top gear running as representing 95% of the running, we find that our test with a load of 1200 lbs. is practically 5-times as high as the load which BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} estimates it will actually get. We are continuing our tests with these bear- ings until we have completed 100 hours. We then propose running one journal bearing and one plain thrust with improved lubricating as proposed by BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} We shall then be able to judge which of these schemes stand up the best. If the plain thrust can be made to work reliably, it is the cheapest and simplest modification to make. Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
