X3398 COPY OF LETTER RECEIVED FROM:- PETO & RADFORD, 50, GROSVENOR GARDENS, LONDON, S.E.1. M/C.31 23rd. February, 1922. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Nightingale Road, Derby. <63398 x 444? Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr. Fowler Clark. Batteries on Goshawk. We are writing to confirm the writer's conversation with you on Wednesday, particularly with regard to the size of battery under consideration. Touching first on the 40/50 car; we understand that you find our E.D.11 in teak box with our patent fastening to be very satisfactory from all points of view and we are glad of this because we are convinced that it is the most suitable battery for the 40/50 Rolls Royce Car. We do not feel happy about the size of the battery contemplated for the Goshawk. We are firmly of the opinion that it is too small. Seeing that the car has no magneto and that the various lights will be the same as on the 40/50 car, we do not quite see what justifies the use of a smaller battery at all. At present, we have submitted to you a E.D.7 battery, because it is the largest that can be got into the space you allowed us. This is two sizes smaller than the 40/50.E.D.11 If you must have a smaller battery than this, then we urge that you drop down only one size, namely to E.D.9 which, no doubt, in view of the improved dynamo and charging rates you are incorporating, may be all right. The E.D.9 can be made up in three assemblies, the dimensions of which are, 17 3/4" x 7 1/4" x 9" high and 19 1/4" x 6 3/4" x 9" " and 13 1/4" x 9 1/4" x 9" " Contd. | ||
