re BENTLEY SPARKING PLUGS.
-------------------------

We attach hereto a copy of H7/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 5.2.36., in reference to the above. We would like your comments on the points raised because we feel that, generally speaking, there are more complaints of plug trouble on Bentley cars than we should like - in any case much more than we get on either the 20/25 HP. or the Phantom II.

A curious feature of practically all these complaints is that it has proved impossible to find any actual defect in the sparking plugs which have been suspected. In the majority of cases, plugs which have been suspected on one car have been used up on another without further trouble.

Of course, we are hoping that the 850 type plug will be an improvement but we have not run these long enough to say whether they are any better.

We believe there is sufficient evidence to prove that leaded fuels cause an increased tendency to misfire. On the other hand, we do not know that there is any evidence to substantiate the view that changing about between leaded fuels and straight petrol causes further trouble.

As you have probably made comparative tests on various fuels, perhaps you will let us have your views.

We are sending you herewith the plugs removed from B.51-DK and B.159-DK. These plugs have not been touched since their removal from the car.
