20 HP. ENGINE SUSPENSION.

Referring to LeC.2771, we feel that this scheme with its want of adjustment will not work out as a permanently satisfactory proposal. The Experimental Department will no doubt get away with one or two, but if it were to come on to production we should be in difficulties.

In the case of the 40/50 HP. one bracket is clipped to the tubular member pinned into the crankcase, and after the position has been located in the chassis a taper pin is inserted to locate it accurately and permanently, so that it can be taken down and put up without losing the accurate location of the engine relative to the chassis.

In the design under discussion there is no possibility of adjustment laterally, and it is essential that we should have some such lateral adjustment as has been provided in the 40/50 HP.

I suggest that the simplest way to do it is to double the length of the bracket into which the tubular member of the crankcase fits, spliting this on the top and using two bolts to clip it up tight, and then to locate with a 5/16" taper pin.

You will notice that in the design you have supplied us with the member connecting the two tubes isbrazed to both, and I think you will agree that this construction is not reasonable for production.

If you will agree to my suggestion, it will enable us to get the job cleared up quickly with adequate provision for production requirements if and when it has to be brought in.
