To EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X.2628 & F.P. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/LG1.10.20. X.2628 SPRINGING ON 40/50 CHASSIS. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/LG1-10-20 (N1/426.9.20) Attached herewith is our report on springing and also note from R.{Sir Henry Royce} We have gone to a lot of trouble changing the springs over and over from 2.EX to 4.EX Car. With the springs under the same condition of greasiness we cannot notice any difference. We notice that if a car is too stiffly sprung, it rides badly over a bumpy road. We also notice that with either type of spring, the shock absorber is an improvement when the springs are greasy. We have cabled to you to let us know what the conditions are of running when the people in America consider that the thin leaf springs show up such a decided advantage. As soon as we have this information we will try and confirm their results. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} RECEIVED OCT 7 1920 R.R. 285A (100 T.)
