With reference to the standardisation sheets for Exide batteries and Peto & Radford batteries, of a larger capacity, and the starter motor wound 2 coils in series, and 2 in parallel, could you please tell me a little more about the origin of these. Who are the people who complained about the present starting for instance ? Because both Mr. Elliott and myself are definitely under the impression that Mr. Royce is opposed to an increase in the size of the battery, and would prefer that energy should be expended on making the starting conditions perfect, for instance altering the battery ignition so that it would fire efficiently with half the normal battery volts, and also perfecting the carburation. In addition to this, since the new method of winding the field demands more current it will be essential to use the larger battery if this field winding is standardised, and therefore the whole thing seems to stand or fall by the desirability of using a larger battery.

Y4152 With reference to the starter motor with solid poles and no insulation except oxide or varnish between the armature plates, I have no objection to signing this, but at present without agreeing to the alteration in the winding referred to in the description.
