8119. To Sce, from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} E.3/HP.15.12.32. C. For. Ha. Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} re Peregrine Extra Cylinder Lubrication. The 20/25 chassis is not fitted with extra cylinder lubrication, and we are proposing to leave this off on the Peregrine. There are two reasons for the use of extra cylinder lubrication: (a) To eliminate cylinder piston taps starting up from cold. (b) To reduce wear of cylinder bores. In the case of (a) we do not think cold piston taps are likely to give us trouble on the Peregrine as this engine should be easy on account of its small bore. In the case of (b) this is not a complaint that we suffer from, and there is additional provision for dealing with it in the form of separate cylinder liners. We should, therefore, be glad if you would delete this section, including the automatic valve and its features in the relief valve unit together with the facings and drillings on the crankcase.
