RE CABRIOLET DE VILLE. No. L.6414
Dear Sirs,
Some while ago you fitted the above body to a subframe and as we have been unable to let you have a chassis the car has not been completed. It is a "C"type steering for a long chassis.
We could now make good use of this body but for the present we are still unable to let you have a chassis. We therefore suggest that you complete the body without the chassis, fitting the head leather, trimming and giving two coats of Works Grey. In order to do this it would be advisable to support the body(temporary) at the four points of support of the subframe so as to reproduce the mounted conditions as nearly as possible. No doubt you will be able to rig up a wooden jig on castors.
We are aware of the dangers of the head leather sagging etc. and are prepared to run the risk. If we are able to demonstrate that a cabriolet head may be completed on the subframe body before mounting we shall have proved that this system of suspension has at least one outstanding advantage.
The head leather would be your standard for such a head The upholstery can be "E" cloth for the rear seats, black leather for the front seats. We would like "Triplex" Glass to be used for the wind screen.
We would also like you to go ahead in preparing a set of wings and valances suitable for the car. The would be exactly the same as those you have fitted to 7.EX. and the other subframe car.
When the work is completed we will arrange to have the body conveyed to our works at Derby for mounting.
We would be glad to have your remarks.
Yours faithfully,
for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
