Spring Distortion Tests.

We have been trying to reproduce the spring distortion on 3-B-IV fitted with Woodhead front springs.

This car has been run with the rear brakes out of action. We have been able to lock the front wheels on several occasions during the tests, otherwise the wheels have been on the point of locking at every braking effort.

So far we have been unsuccessful in reproducing the spring failure, but we have bent the brake toggles G.101.122. These have been replaced by stronger type to GB.1125. We find that the weaker toggles are still being used in production, and as we have had previous failures with this type, should recommend we change over as early as possible to the strengthened type.

The tests will continue, and a further report of progress will follow.
