contd:- -5- R.R. 838a (100 T) (S.H. 798, 10-12-20) G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 2948 (4) Arrange the starting (priming etc.) so that the engine will fire if turned ever so slowly; we started large aero engines quite reliably by hand turning very slowly indeed, and sparking with hand magneto. Our latest starting carburetter should be fitted with moving throat which nearly closes, so that at the very slowest speed nearly all petrol is drawn with vigorous suction. Two simple cocks could be fitted on the induction pipe for extrapriming in very cold weather, and the starter carburetter could be connected to extra volatile fuel reservoir. I personally prefer a certain start with some extra trouble rather than a doubtful start without any troublesome preparations. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
