ROLLS ROYCE MINIATURE INSTRUMENTS
Weston Model 301. No. 456151
Alliott Type "M.R." No.146020
ELECTROSTATIC TESTS:
Mounted side by side flush in cardboard box, 6½" x 6½" x 6".
16-5-27 Weather cloudy: Temperature 70°F.{Mr Friese} indoors
After vigorous rubbing of glasses with Selvyt, no deflection on either instrument; by hand also no deflection. Warmed up to 120° F.{Mr Friese} over an electric lamp for 1½ hours; both instruments thoroughly warmed through: rub with Selvyt, no deflection on either; rub by hand:- Weston deflects 2 divisions, Elliott no deflection. Deflection not sustained more than 3 or 4 seconds.
On cooling down (1½ hours after removal of lamp) and while instruments are presumably still dry; rubbing by hand produces on the Weston about ½ division, and on Elliott ¼ division deflection, but vigorous and sustained rubbing is necessary to cause movement of pointers.
17-5-27 After 2 hours exposure to sunlight, not very bright.
Instruments slightly warm (90° F.{Mr Friese}) and rubbing by hand:-
Weston gives 2 divisions deflection.
Elliott " no deflection.
19-5-27 Conditions normal: Temperature 70° F.{Mr Friese}, weather dry
Rubbing by hand produces:-
Weston 1 division deflection
Elliott ¼ "
