March 2nd. 1915. XC 879 Re Parts broken on Bumping Machine. I send under separate cover 3 brackets which have been broken while bumping the back axle. These three brackets seem as though they are on the weak side especially the cross member flange F.1328. The swivel pin bracket F.2403 and the swivel pin support bracket F.2406 are the others. All of these parts have to do with the support of the rear spring swivel pin and the whole of them on both sides of the frame have broken in about 8 hours running. I have mentioned these brackets in earlier reports as having given way on the bumper, particularly the lugs of the flange on F.1328. I think it advisable to improve the parts and to keep a sharp eye on the cars on the road particularly as such excessive loads are being carried on cars on Military service. I do not think there is much wrong with F.2403 if it received better support from F.2406. F.2406 does not seem to be strong enough to deal with the fore and aft movement which certainly seems to exist through the working of the springs. The character of the break also points to this.
