With reference to Mr Royce's note dated May 16th, will you please test a front shackle of rear springs as follows :- 1. Twist the shackle just beyond the elastic limit both ways by means of parallel bars inserted in the link. 2. Hold the large boss firmly (to represent a tight fit on the overhanging pin of the shackle) and bend the links backwards and forwards until they break. By comparing the fractures with shackles which have actually failed we shall know what has caused the failure. | ||
