With reference to the recent breakages of these spring links, we have carried out the tests which you have recently suggested. Twisting test. The solid end of the spring link was mounted in a mandle and held rigidly. A long bar was connected between the two eyes by means of a bolt passing through the eyes of the bar and twisted in alternate directions, the twisting being carried far enough in each case to give a slight permanent set. After six reversals one link parted on one side only in a similar manner and at the same point as the failures have occured on the road.
