X4338 To EFC. {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} BY {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} /RD2/AL.27.1.26. VARIOUS POINTS ON PRODUCTION. X4338 X8780 Replying to your EFC {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} 4/T21.1.26., (1) CUT-OUT ARMATURE SPINDLE - This is at present mild steel nickel deposited and should be a good job, but we will change it to stainless steel as suggested. (2) DYNAMO END COVER. - If the locking wire is correctly fitted no trouble should be experienced in removing this cover. We are adding a countersink to the hole which takes the locking wire to assist this being always correctly fitted. (3) FINISH OF CABLE ENDS. - We have examined a quantity of wires on production and have not been able to find any cases of insufficient braiding under the cuff. The "Gloy" you mention is used by the cable manufacturers as an adhesive between the braiding and the last layer of insulation on the whole length of the cable and where cuffs are not used we varnish the end before binding with string. (4) POSITION OF DISTRIBUTOR ROTOR. We have again examined the whole assembly of this and are unable to find any cause for the rotor fouling the points, but owing to the frequent occurrence of this trouble we propose to lower the position of the rotor to give the works more latitude.
