Testers Conf file Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/MH.{M. Huckerby}4.3.40. TESTERS CONFERENCE HELD AT THE WORKS ON SATURDAY, MARCH 2nd, 1940. Present: Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}, WJH., CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation}, FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies}, Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager}, Clm.{D. D. Clapham}, TAS.{T. Allan Swinden}, HC., JBS., and Col. Copy to MHR.{M. H. Rigby} (absent). RATIONALISED ENGINE. It was agreed that the two most important items requiring finalising on the engine were the type of front end drive and cylinder head. CARBURATION. Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager} pointed out that he had got more than he could handle if he continued to deal with starting devices and carburetters. It was agreed that TAS.{T. Allan Swinden} should take over the work that was being done on this subject. An opportunity to finalise the carburation on the Cast Iron 6-cylinder engine would occur when the new unit was fitted to 9.B.V. This should be installed with the Duplex Stromberg carburetter and the detailed controls to go with this, and later on the SU Carburetters would be fitted when controls for this scheme had been designed and detailed. ENGINE MOUNTING. Both the 8-cylinder and the 6-cylinder engine mountings require finalising, and Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager} is putting this job as No.1. FRONT SUSPENSION. It was emphasised that the main unreliable features of the front suspension were dampers, and that Clapham should urge the new damper which is just being detailed. Design were also to be asked to produce some low pound-age 8" deflection front springs. | ||
