BY.15/G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 26.1.32. 20/25 HP. EASY CHANGE GEARBOX - 'U' SERIES. ------------------------------------------------- The Experimental Department have found it necessary to introduce a burnishing process on both pairs of helical gears i.e. the pair driving the side shaft and the pair of helical gears constituting the 3rd gear ratio. The scheme adopted by RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} is one which employs a method of reciprocating the gears under a light load whilst rotating same. The "rig up" which was used by RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} can be seen in the Experimental Department, which would form a basis for the production of a similar proposal for production process. The Experimental Department are definitely of the opinion that the necessary quietness called for when using two pairs of helical gears can only be obtained in the new box by using a scheme similar to the above.
