300a HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/RH.{R. Hollingworth}1/VS.{J. Vickers}3.6.37. EXAMINATION OF ELECTRICAL UNITS REMOVED FROM 35.EX. Dynamo. The condition of this was found to be bad. The ratchet fastener, on the end-cover, had broken away, allowing the cover to slide on to the coupling. It appears that the cover was carried round on the coupling, and in doing so broke the negative brush-holder. Apart from this, the brushes, experimental grade EG.12, were worn away, and a new set had to be fitted. The commutator is very much worn, as also is the front bearing. Battery. Condition good. Horns. These failed and were removed and sent to the makers for examination and report. Horn Relay. The resistance-shortcircuiting contacts failed by becoming welded together, presumably due to heavy sparking as the result of the large current taken by the horns. This unit has been returned to the makers for examination. Cutout. Condition good. Starter Motor In good condition. Starter Motor Relay. In good condition. continued. | ||
