re Phantom III Roller Tappets.
---------------------
It will be remembered that we have already tried some roller tappets on the Phantom III to LeC.4383, but these were run in connection with the existing hydraulic lash adjusting gear, and failed to stand up, both rollers and cams picking up.
The proposal now is to try these roller tappets without the hydraulic lash adjusters,on the assumption that this would be reproducing the same conditions as exist on the Bentley engine.
If any further pieces are required they should be made to LeC.4383, but we should now recommend the tappet blocks being produced in aluminium instead of cast iron as specified on the scheme. The cast iron was originally used to accommodate the larger hole required for the roller tappet but we are prepared to take the risk of using aluminium here.
Will Psn. please say if the effect of the .9 dia. follower with the present cam forms has been investigated.
