re MARLES TYPE STEERING.

I visited the Adamant Eng. Co., on Friday the 10th instant, to check progress of production of our Steering Cams, as per your instruction.

It is fortunate from our production point of view that I did so.

The arrangement upon the occasion of our last visit was that they should produce 12 - 25/30 HP. Cams under the new method as outlined in my report, whereas they are producing PH.lll. I immediately told them this was not in accordance with arrangement and they would have to get very busy and go all out on 25/30, because we have no cams for next weeks production.

They have promised to do this, and will do their utmost to avoid delay in delivery.

I tried all the P.lll Cams produced by the new method that I could obtain in a condition suitable for checking and had three finally broached before coming away.

These three are a decided improvement upon the general standard they have been supplying as regards the equality of contact arc of roller with cam, but there is still no real tolerance for their manufacturing errors from the cutting operation to the finishing operations, and I again stressed the necessity of either cutting on the eccentric mandrill or finally grinding the thread form.

Comm. Matravers is in contact with Atkins re a grinding machine for this operation but nothing concrete has emerged yet.

They have approximately 200 cams held up at Luton which we have rejected from various batches, so one would imagine they would do all they could to obtain tackle to grind the thread profile.

I had them searching all round for any new 25/30 HP. Cams they could find and obtained three, I tested these and passed two which are being despatched to-morrow.
