Bumper Motifs - Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/MH.{M. Huckerby}7.3.40.

Neither we nor N. have in stock one of the motifs for which you ask, but I have been able to arrange for one to be posted to you personally by the J.R. Engineering Co. of Willesden, who, as you know, have made bumpers for us in the past.

You will see that the motif is the "R-R" Badge which is affixed to the front of the top tank of the radiator.

Up to some little time back, one was fitted to every bumper for an R-R car (unless specially ordered otherwise), but when over-riders were standardised Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} gave instructions that the motif should be omitted, partly because the saving this effected helped to balance the extra cost of the over-riders, and partly because he thought the bumper looked a bit crowded when carrying a motif and a pair of over-riders.
