Your ref. 713.

Dear Sirs,

With reference to your letter addressed to our Mr. Henry. The Aero Division has no immediate interest, but your letter has been passed to us (Chassis Division) for attention. We have various silencing problems and probably the Engine exhaust is not the most difficult.

With the introduction of stiff frames and independant suspension, chassis noises have been amplified to a marked extent. Tyre noises can be heard in the body more readily than before, and noise of shock dampers and suspension generally is far greater.

We have of course done a certain amount of work to combat this noise increase. Rubber insulation between leaf springs and axle, and rubber bushings in the suspension mechanism have helped, as has also the padding of the body by fibre and other substances. In spite of our efforts the frame continues to amplify noise, and very soon we are going to make a serious investigation into the matter.

If you have any experience of this sort of trouble or if the problem should interest you, we should be glad if you would communicate with us or call in when you are next in this district.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
