30 m.p.h. Exhaust Boom - 25/30 h.p. Cx{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager}10/KW16.6.36.

Reference Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}3/KW9.10.35, the concluding paragraph of this memo reads -

" With a view to standardisation (flattened snout on end of
" exhaust pipe) we are co-operating with the Design Dept.
" with a view to getting a scheme suitable for production.

Will you please let us know what is the position with regard to this. It does not figure yet in the items for which standardisation sheets are in circulation or have been signed.

The exhaust boom at between 26 and 29 m.p.h. on GUL-82 - which I was driving a few days ago - was very noticeable, and in my view quite destroyed that extreme silence which one is led to expect with a car of this kind, and which would in fact be experienced had it not been for the exhaust drone.

We do therefore think it is important that this simple fitting should be standardised at the earliest possible moment. Perhaps you can please say in your reply what has held up this matter so long, seeing that your note above referred to is dated last October, i.e. 8 months ago.
