1487 EXPERIMENTAL DEPARTMENT. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTC.10/JH. 29th. December, 1938. The S.U. Carburetter Co.Ltd., Adderley Park, BIRMINGHAM.8. Dear Sirs, Confirming our telephone conversation of yesterday. We wrote you some time ago about fitting dampers to the air valve of 1 3/4" (throttle) carburetters, and you said this could be done. Would you please supply therefore, one pair of dash pots, with air valves fitted with dampers, these can then be fitted for trial to our existing carburetters. With reference to Mr. Coopers telephone message concerning the machining of the lug to a limit of .005 to carry a bracket on the production 4 1/4 litre Bentley. We have looked into this, and wish you to carry on as instructed, because this job is being modified again later on and our tools are already in existance re the bracket. With reference to the cork glands also mentioned on the 'phone to Mr. Cooper, we are having trouble in customers hands, of main jets sticking due to the 'lined' type of cork gland hardening and gripping the jet. Will you please let us know, how many carburetters were supplied with this type of gland, and if possible the dates they were first fitted. We understand that the normal type of gland has now returned, and we would therefore like to know also when this change took place. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
