F.V.C. PC92. Jan 23rd. 1925. ELLIOTT AMMETER NO.134643. The general appearance of this ammeter when received after the 10,000 mile test was, apart from the fact that the glass was cracked right across, reasonably O.K. It was noticed, however, that the black finish seemed brittle from the way in which it had become chipped off in placed exposing the clean metal. On attempting to test the instrument for accuracy, it was found that the needle was sluggish in movement, as though stiff in its bearings. From a close examination it appears that the movement is loose in its bearings, allowing the needle, when in the vertical position, to drop back and foul a small tag which extends towards it, and to which is secured one end of the control spring. It looks as though, when the glass was cracked, the zero corrector was forced inwards slightly distuirting the bearing. EPC/CAP. | ||
