To ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. EFC1/T24.1.25. X 4622 X. 4622. ELLIOTT AMMETER. This Elliott ammeter has now done 10,000 miles on the car, but although it has been working reasonably correctly it is not altogether satisfactory because the glass has again become cracked and personally I am inclined to think this has not been through carelessness on the part of any of our men, but due to the particular way in which the zero corrector has to be passed through the glass face. This cracking of the glass has apparently led to another fault by which the instrument needle jams against the small tag supporting the control spring of the instrument. (See my assistant's report herewith.) Before we could pass this instrument even as a second string to the Weston, it would be necessary for this peculiar fault to be corrected and again to run 10,000 miles, without any fault. Perhaps you will now return the instrument to Messrs. Elliott. We should like to have one in which no fault at all would develop on a 10,000 mile run. EFC+ | ||
