X. 8140 To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to CJ. RG.{Mr Rowledge} c. to DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} S E C R E T. R3/M23.3.25. THROTTLE GOVERNOR CONTROL. Regarding the above, the extra opening to 40° seems quite a lot, and is putting our governor at a dis-advantage. If you can do it without risk of trouble, do so [crossed out], but if not, reduce to 30°. Regarding scheme 624, there is one thing I should alter to avoid risk of the lever fouling by having to pass exactly clear between the arms of the double lever. The roller could be wider and carried on an overhanging pin. There looks plenty of room for scheme shewn below. SEE ORIGINAL FOR SKETCH. I think we are not getting the best from the idea of variable speed, as we have it now, and with your proposed modification the speed of opening goes down to 0, and hence we lose time, whereas we ought to go down to a minimum speed of opening considerably greater than 0. Much larger roller, but I fear we cannot rely on rollers always being free enough to turn, but bigger ones would. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
