Bailey - Chief Engineer} ---------------- E.2/HP.23.4.32. --------------- Nitro-hardened Crankshafts. --------------------------- We feel very definitely that we may require to use a nitro-hardened crankshaft on the Bensport. It may be as well therefore to look into the question of cost. The Vickers Dermo shafts we have purchased in small quantities, it is understood, have cost us more than twice the price of the standard forgings but there appears to be no fundamental reason why this steel should be any dearer when it is brought into normal use. The cost of the actual nitriding process seems to be negligible. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
