BENTLEY.

1. Axle pinion nose bearing failures.

Previous modifications are not proving entirely satisfactory. A new type of Ransome & Marles bearing No.G.4080 has been thoroughly tested experimentally, and a supply has been handed to GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} for test and report.
[Handwritten: see Bull.]

2. Brakes.

BZ. linings are continuing to satisfy customers who have complained of squeaking brakes. This material is to be used in future for all replacements and stocks of the original M.R. material are being withdrawn.

3. Silencer rattle.

There are occasional complaints of a rattle from rear silencer due to the breaking away of spot welding of the clips, Piece No. EB.878/9 which support the inner pipes. This is being looked into from a design point of view.
There is however evidence that failures are the result of imperfect welding.
There have been no recurrent cases after re-welding. K.{Mr Kilner} are well aware how to tackle the job, and Paris have also been informed.
In a recent case dealt with by P. the silencer was completely dismantled. There was no need to do this.
[Handwritten: By satisfactory welding in production]

4. Engine bearings.

(A) 3 1/2 litre.

A depot sheet is being issued recommending the use of Halls metal for connecting rod bearings and large capacity oil pump, when replacements are required. Customer should be persuaded to pay for this.
