RE THERMOMETER FITTING FOR ENGINES
WITH THERMOSTATS.

If we agree to providing means of fitting
Thermometers to cars fitted withna Thermostat, it means that
apart from leaving the connection on the water pipe we shall
have to drill the Dashboard and fixithe plug in. We and
Mr. Royce are definitely against fitting Thermometers on
engines with a Thermostat fitted. It should be clearly
understood that there is a risk (when we fit Thermostats)
of the radiator becoming fozen up. We expect, in the
extremely cold weather, that Blanking Plates or a Muff will
have to be used. We think that to fit a Thermometer to
as the driver would see the water temperature registering 80°
these engines would be misleading whereas his radiator
might be freezing. We think, as regard measuring the
water temperature when on test, this could easily be
arranged by clipping round the top water pipe a small
receptacle containing oil; into this an ordinary glass
thermometer could be inserted. This would give practica-
lly the correct temperature of the water.

If customers ask for Thermometer when
Thermostats are fitted, we should try to persuade them
against them having them, if they insist, they they must
expect to pay for the extra work.
