re Bensport Report.

The following notes confirm our discussion on Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}'s report on the Bensport car after 12,200 miles, as regards what is proposed to be done in dealing with the failures and troubles which have arisen during the mileage. The items are taken in the order and number given in report GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}9.4.33.

(1) After inspecting the circlips from the broken piston we came to the conclusion that it would be better to use pads in the ends of the piston pins instead. Previous investigation has shown us that this last method has never given us any trouble. A design is being issued accordingly.

(2) This item has been explained by the fact of wrong material being used for the pistons.

(3) A new and stronger design of piston has been instructed to overcome the trouble of the piston skirt breaking.

(4) The 18 gallon tank on the second Bensport has improved baffles which should overcome this trouble.

(5) No.2. Bensport has a larger ratio starter gear and stronger spring on the bijur pinion clutch, and appears to be satisfactory.

(6) We do not attach much importance to this item as the Bensport engine is standard in respect to the release valve. Also it is thought that as the oil is emptied out of the engine for measuring purposes every night during test, the dirt in the system is very likely to be stirred up.

(7) Bensport No.2. has an improved scheme for the breather which should deal with this point.

(8) We propose to leave off the stop for the scraper ring on the new piston to deal with this point.
