RR 758A (10H) (49968) 19/10/37 C.E.Co. COMPLETED 19.1.38. 25/30 H.P. STANDARDISATION OF PARTS Description: THERMOID FACING ON CLUTCH PLATE. (CLUTCH PLATE UNALTERED). Date Issued: 27.11.37 Sheet No.: G.1. Drg. No.: L.O.P.S. Purpose: To eliminate jaggers, improve smoothness and reduce rate of wear. Brief Report and Remarks: See remarks on Bentley sheet No.B.1. 550 miles on 22.G.VI and on GLC.5. 1119 " " 27.G.VI. 11" Thermoid facings were not received in England till near end of October, but standardisation is recommended on the satisfactory experience gained on Bentley and Phantom III. Material is available. Borg & Beck quote 3/- per plate extra. When recommended for Introduction: As soon as possible. Report References: By: Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} Old Parts: Material £2.18.0. Labour - Burden Bought Out Total £2.18.0. New Parts: Material £3.1.0. Labour " Burden " Total £3.1.0. Increase in Cost £ -.3.0. Decrease G/Rb.{R. Bowen} 6.12.37. Production Position and Comments: Cost of Tools & See remarks. All existing clutch plates for "R" series are now in stock and have been fitted to approximately the 1st 100 chassis, hence it is necessary to return the 2nd 100 plates to Borg & Beck for conversion to Thermoid facings at 6/6d. each. We have already despatched 70 plates for this conversion, and when these return it will be possible to commence fitting on production chassis. It will be necessary for Depots to check clutch spring pressures to ensure that slip does not occur, and this can be done on exactly the same fixture as is required for Bentley Thermoid clutches. These fixtures will cost approximately £32.0.0d. each, and two will be required, viz. one each for Cricklewood and Kingsbury. RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} Authorisation to Proceed. Introduce on the 108 Chassis in R Series. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Date 17/1/38 Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} #S Date 14/1/38 | ||
