-2- EFCL/AM 8.1.36 contd. It is the question of what we call the extended armature contact, and in this respect a new design of switchbox should be like your LeC.2597. You will probably be not quite clear as to what has happened in this connection, but you will remember that we were forced to drop the extended armature contact as originally arranged in conjunction with the green lamp switch unit for reasons duly reported at the time. Now, as we have not adopted the green lamp switch unit, the switchbox to LeC.2597 with extended armature contact is more correct than the present standard without it, and I have already made a move with the D.O. here to recover this feature, because the increased delay in breaking the armature circuit has been proved to be a little better in avoiding the burning of the contacts. The switchbox should, however, not be like LeC.2597 in respect of the 1 and 2 numbering for this reason: On LeC.2597 1 was the field and 2 was the armature to agree with the special long distribution box then under consideration, but on present standard distribution boxes we considered it more expedient to retain 1 as the armature and 2 as the field. Therefore, in the case now proposed figures 1 and 2 as shewn on LeC.2597 should, other things being the same, be interchanged. The real 2 however, is a new 2 on the other side of the base, which we have referred to above as being directly in connection with the field positive of the dynamo and the 2 now in question (the old 1 on LeC.2597) is now the terminal to which one end of the field resistance is to be attached and might be called 2R, the other end of the field resistance being attached to the new 2 on the other side. In addition to the above, the H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} (on LeC.2597) should be altered to 7. As a more general suggestion, we offer the suggestion of transferring the whole of the charging switching to the lamp side utilising three 'on' positions as follows :- 1. Reduced charge 2. Reduced charge and side and tail lamps. 3. Full charge and head lamps. at the same time utilising the right hand switch as | ||
