contd :- -5- has been incorporated some good workmanship. The impression we got from the short run we had on this car was that the front suspension from the driving seat was very little, if any, inferior to that of the Lancia. The suspension is certainly remarkably simple. In the back seats the low speed riding comfort was greater than the Sizaire but less than that of the Cottin-Desgouttes. At high speeds it was preferable to either, on the whole. The 3-point chassis suspension enables the engine to be fitted rigidly to the frame, and presumably would reduce the necessity for a subframe. This type of front suspension also permits of a very excellent steering lock being obtained. Farman. One other car with original features of suspension is the Farman. This firm have made an effort to obtain a variable rating rear suspension with leaf springs. The main rear springs are cantilever, very much off-set as indicated. The main leaf has considerably more initial camber than the other leaves, the result being that until this leaf is deflected 1½" approximately from the normal load position, the other leaves do not come into action. An auxiliary transverse spring assists the main leaf in carrying the normal load, and in order to give lateral stability over the conditions of light contd :- FARMAN REAR SUSPENSION. | ||
